Amelia Winterbottom
I was inspired by the message of Pussy Riot and Lauren Greenfield. Something I really liked was the. use of ski masks. I liked how they use these to protect their identities which creates a sense of commonality and sameness. They also target feminist activism. With Lauren Greenfield’s works, she aims to explore the everyday lives and rituals of women.
With this in mind, I’ve created a series of 4 photos to document the everyday rituals of women that are often negatively stereotyped, specifically young women. I wanted to exaggerate and add a satirical element to it with the masks. It represents that often stereotypes group people together, removing their uniqueness. To do this I bought some brightly coloured ski masks. I was able to get my friends to model for me which I’m very grateful for. I then drew out some ideas based on stereotypes I could think of. Finally, I narrowed it down to 4 ideas based on what I thought I could do realistically. After taking the photos I spent some time figuring out which ones I liked the best and then edited them using lightroom.
Basic Bitches
This was to show the stereotype of young people “wasting money” on things small things like Starbucks and also the stereotype that it is a bad thing to like mainstream stuff like getting coffee.
She’ll Want for Nothing
This was to showcase the stereotype of women not wanting for anything but marriage this is maybe a bit of an older stereotype but I still wanted to address it. This phrase takes away other aspects of human fulfilment suggesting that emotional and personal aspirations do not matter for women. Suggesting that all a woman needs is a man who can meet her material needs.
Arts and crafts
For this one, I took more inspiration from pussy riot and wanted to incorporate protest signs. I used the phrase arts and crafts as the title because of the stereotype that arts and crafts aren’t taken seriously. This links to the idea that feminist protest and women's rights aren’t taken seriously.

Spending too much time getting ready and being late. Showcase this by photographing them getting ready in the bathroom. For this one, I also took inspiration directly from Lauren Greenfields' photo of the three girls getting ready.
